Islamabad, February 06, 2015 (PPI-OT): President Mamnoon Hussain appreciated efforts being undertaken to upgrade health infrastructure in the country for provision of quality medical facilities to all and sundry. The President underlined the need for raising awareness about health issues particularly related to women and children. The President said that provision of universal basic health facilities play an important role in the overall development and progress of a country.
The President was addressing the 1st International Woman and Child Health Conference organized by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) here in Islamabad. The event was attended, among others, by Minister of State for Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Ms. Saira Afzal Tarar, Dr. Javed Akram, Vice Chancellor SZABMU, eminent professors and distinguished specialists of medicine along with senior officials of President’s Secretariat.
The President stressed on taking practical steps to make meaningful contribution to improve the health of women and children as the well-being of women and children is essential for a healthy society. The President called for extending healthcare services to rural and far flung areas of Pakistan for effectively addressing health challenges and provision of additional allowance and residential facilities for doctors serving in those areas.
The President said that awareness campaigns regarding woman and child health issues should also be launched. The President called upon educationists and practitioners to keep themselves abreast of latest technologies and advancements for positively being able to address challenges to health safety. The President emphasized to take into consideration the lessons learnt by other muslin countries through involvement of religious leaders for population control in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, the President also called for providing security to lady health workers and volunteers administering polio drops to children around the country. The President commended the services of lady health workers and volunteers. The President also paid tribute to health workers who laid down their lives in this noble cause. The President affirmed the commitment of the government to fight and completely eradicate polio disease from the country.
The President stated that the people of Pakistan have rendered immense sacrifices in war against terrorism and extremism adding that the whole nation was committed to defeat the nefarious designs of terrorists. Paying tribute to martyred civilians and personnel of security forces in the war on terror, the President reiterated the resolve that the war against terrorists would continue till its logical conclusion, and elimination of the menace from the country.
