Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development Ms. Sitara Ayaz has said that the present government was making all out efforts to address the problems of juvenile and women prisoners behind the bars in minor cases.
“We will take up the issue of speedy justice to the prisoners of minor cases with Chief Justice Peshawar High Court for proper guidance”, said the Minister to media men while distributing Eid Package among the juvenile and women prisoners at Central jail Peshawar on Friday. MPAs Yasmin Zia, Munawar Sultana, Zubaida Ehsan, Superintendent Jail, Kahlild Abbas and SPARK representatives were also present on the occasion.
Provincial Minister Sitara Ayaz said that jail was not only the place for being punished but also the people imprisoned as a result of punishment in different crimes are reformed and improved in a way so that they may not repeat these crimes after acquittal and could play a positive role in the development and prosperity of the country and nation by becoming useful citizens.
The Provincial Minister was apprised of the problems faced by the prisoners. Superintendent Jail told her that alongwith establishment of school for education and training of juvenile and establishment of vocational centre for ladies prisoners in the jail premises was inevitable. Similarly he stressed the need for provision of funds to help out those prisoners who were bearing additional imprisonment due to non payment of fine.
Sitara Ayaz assured that she will do her best for solving this problem immediately by meeting with Minister Prisons and present it to the provincial government for necessary action. Earlier, she also distributed Eid package amongst ladies and juvenile prisoners. She met individually with every prisoner and enquired about their problems and assured them her all out efforts for its early redressal.
