Karachi, October 10, 2012 (PPI-OT): KMC Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan has said that all necessary and important measures would be taken immediately after review of the arrangements about fire extinguishing at Civic Center.
He said this while chairing a review meeting held on precautionary measures for fire extinguishing. The meeting was attended by Senior Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman, Chief Engineer Building Shamim Ghauri, Director Solid Waste Management Najeeb Ahmed, Chief Fire Officer Ehtisham-ud-din, Director U.S.R.A Naeem Yousuf, Altaf Hussain, Deputy Controller Civil Defence Government of Sindh and other high officials. Matanat Ali Khan said that a detailed survey of all fire extinguishing equipments should be made in the building and take measures including removing the barriers from the inside and outside the ways in emergency situation, making the way for snorkel, putting fire alarm system right, deploying of fire fighting staff for 24 hours for which fire brigade, rescue unit and ambulance service campaign would be run. A seminar was also being held in first week of November in which documentary film and lectures for training about fire extinguishing would be provided.
Metropolitan Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan said that officers and employees at civic center should get training about fire extinguishing which would help them in emergency situation. He said that gradual program for all employees was being started in which training about precautionary measures in emergency situations would be provided. Besides officers and employees were also directed to send their opinion and recommendations to Municipal Services’ office so that after consideration performance could be improved.
