Islamabad, May 17, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany, Mr. Abdul Basit has said that the objective of promoting country’s interest abroad cannot be achieved by any Diplomatic Mission without the active support of its own people living there, says a press release received here today from Germany.
Ambassador was addressing the participants of a reception hosted in honour of Pakistani Community by the Embassy here today. Mr. Basit said that the Pakistani Community living abroad has been playing a vital role in the socio-economic development of the country and their continued support is one of the factors that the country made progress in different fields of life despite a host of problems that cropped up in the wake of first, conflict in Afghanistan against then Soviet occupation and then the fight against terrorism during the last over 30 years.
He said that Germany was the largest trading partner of Pakistan in Europe and his first preference would be to promote trade and investment between the two countries. Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) have played an important role in the socio-economic development of Germany and he would focus on these SMEs for promotion of investment in Pakistan, Mr. Basit added that the Pakistani Community should also come forward and join hands with the Embassy in its efforts to increase the level of German investments in Pakistan.
He urged the community to be united and enhance their interaction with the German people as it is people-to-people contacts between the two countries that matters the most. It will bring the two nations closer, strengthen relations and enhance level of cooperation between them, he added.
Referring to the problems and difficulties being faced by the community the Ambassador assured that all the issues would be resolved in consultation with them.
