Political stability, reform and capacity building are key lessons of Chinese success: Ahsan Iqbal

Islamabad, May 27, 2014 (PPI-OT): A delegation of Chinese Communist Party headed by Director General, Mr. Tian Duanhui met Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal at his office and attended a session on ‘Governance, Capacity Building and National Development’ with the officers of the ministry today.

While meeting the delegation, Federal Minister said,” Pak-China friendship is the cardinal principle of Pakistan’s state policy no matter which party is in power. Every political party, every citizen sees Pak-China friendship with utmost respect and esteem.

Unprecedented success of China is a model for every country which is fighting to eliminate poverty and underdevelopment and to achieve prosperity. Economic transformation requires aligning political stability with economic reform in the country.

Chinese leadership has been successful in coupling political stability and economic change which led to tremendous progress and prosperity of China. Pakistan needs to learn from the experience of China to enable sustainable development.”

Federal Minister further said, “PMLN government came in power on the agenda of economic development and has been successful in stabilization the economy during last year. Through long term planning in the form of Vision 2025, which will be launched next month, inclusive growth and development of the country will be sought.”

While addressing the session on ‘Governance, Capacity Building and National Development’ Mr. Tian Duanhui said that Pakistan and China are two brotherly countries and should learn from each other’s experiences.

Fundamental reason of unprecedented development of China is the presence of strong central government and political stability. Reforms and economic development is closely linked with the stability of the country. In China all state organs supported economic reforms and consolidated the government‘s reform agenda.

While addressing the session, Prof. Fan Jida, Chinese Academy of Governance said that from 1978 to till date China has been successful in maintaining the economic growth rate of 10% which made China the second largest economy of the world with per capita income more than US$ 16,000.

Unprecedented economic growth was achieved through four guiding principles. Firstly, market oriented reforms based on incentive system, were brought in China by encouraging people to innovate and excel in professions.

Secondly, reforms were introduced incrementally after successful pilot projects. Thirdly, a balanced approach was used in introducing economic development and reforms keeping political stability in the country. Finally, collective wisdom was used in decision making by involving, learned, scholars and researchers in the process of decision making.

He further told that after 1978 China adopted more open policy by developing relations with the neighboring countries and in order to consolidate its policy and to take it one step ahead in 21st century China is liberalizing through Pakistan China Economic Corridor and Silk Road Economic Corridor.

While concluding the session Federal Minister, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal said,”Pakistan is focusing on infrastructure development program through which South Asia, China and Central Asia can be integrated.

Pakistan and China should work closely and should strengthen partnership at all levels. Region can see greater economic development and prosperity through Pak-China mutual projects like Pak China economic corridor. Delegation is visiting Pakistan to share Communist party of China’s governance capacity building strategy and lessons for Pakistan. It will also learn the good practices that are being used in Pakistan.
