Political detainees harassed in Baramulla sub-jail

Srinagar, December 22, 2012 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the forum patronised by the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has said that the political prisoners in Baramulla sub-jail are harassed and maltreated by the jail authorities.

The forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed serious concern over the plight of the detainees in the jail. “It has been observed that superintendent of the sub-jail Baramulla has turned the jail into an interrogation centre and detainees are being subjected to third degree torture.”

He said that the irregular and scanty supply of electricity had made the life of detainees miserable. “There is no proper medical facility and medicines are not being provided to the detainees and the medicines have to be purchased from open market for needy and ailing persons,” he pointed out. The spokesman maintained that the condition of the detainees Maqsood Ahmad Butt of Mamoosa, Pattan, Hilal Ahmad of Pattan and Bilal Ahmad of Sopore was serious and unstable.
