Islamabad, April 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): Inspector General National Highways and Motorway Police Zafar Abbas Lak while addressing a police ‘Darbar’ held on 24th April 2013 (Wednesday) at NH and MP Police Lines HQs Islamabad said that nothing will be compromised in providing safe and secure travelling environment and extending timely and effective help to the road users travelling on national highways and motorways.
He said that Sher Shah Soori Help Centers are being constructed at every 50 KM from Peshawar to Karachi which will also be equipped with Trauma relieving facilities, these would play a key role in safe traveling on highways. Mr. Zafar Abbas Lak said that these Help Centers are dedicated to the great leader of Indo-Pakistan Sher Shah Soori who built 5500 Km Grand Trunk Road from Kabul to Sonar village of Bengal in his short reign of 5 ½ years, who also constructed Saraes after every 40 KMs for the safety and security of people and postal services.
He added that these Help Centers would be known as (SSS) Help Centers. He said these help centers would facilitate the road users in terms of short rest in a peaceful manner, prayers, ambulance service, workshop, first aid and Tuck shop etc.
The IG, NH and MP also said that these help centers would help in curbing crime and timely help to road users in distress on highways. Mr. Zafar Abbas Lak further added that they are also introducing a scheme of providing helmets on free of cost basis to the riders on highways.
He said that on Highways motorcyclists are not wearing helmets which result in severe head injuries and loss of precious lives in most of the cases. Through this scheme, motorway Police is expecting some or less success in reducing the accidents rates of two wheelers.
He further said that Motorway Police is also establishing more than 150 driving schools on public private partnership at district level all over the country which will provide safe driving training to the people. Addressing at the ‘Darbar’ I.G Zafar Abbas Lak said that he is working day and night for the welfare of the force and is providing life insurance to each and every officer from welfare fund.
He added that housing scheme for NH and MP personnel will be introduced shortly in Islamabad. He said that NH and MP is starting its own driving licensing system from 2nd May, 2013. IG also heard the problems of the officers and ordered to resolve their problems.
