Police action against IOK journalist condemned

Srinagar, May 24, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Kashmir Working Journalists Association (KWJA) has condemned the action of Indian police for hurting the religious sentiments of its member and senior journalist, Amrit Pal Singh Bali.

The KAWJA Vice President, Hakeem Irfan, in a statement in Srinagar said that Singh had gone to cover the press conference of pro-India National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar where he said a police officer touched his turban and tried to search through it.

Irfan said, Amrit Pal Singh, who is an active member of the KWJA, had objected to the frisking of turban and asked the police officer deployed there to use electronic gadgets. The police officer even tried to manhandle the journalist and tried to snatch his mobile, he added. The KWJA has taken a serious note of the incident and urged the Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh to investigate the matter and take serious action against the concerned police officer.
