Islamabad, February 02, 2015 (PPI-OT): Petrol in sufficient quantity is available throughout the country including Punjab. Supply chain of Petrol other petroleum products is fully functional. Petrol is supplied in excess of the demand at retail outlets and there are no chances of shortage in any part of the country. Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are monitoring the situation closely.
In view of the price reductions in Petroleum products, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources already issued necessary instructions to all OMCs to top-up their respective depots and move the Premier Motor Gasoline (Petrol), High Speed Diesel and other petroleum products to entire country on war footing basis.
Further, instructions have also been issued to Chief Secretaries of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan , Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan to ensure smooth supplies of petroleum products at retail outlets in their territorial jurisdiction to avoid any kind of shortage, overcharging and discomfort to general public / consumer.
As of the 1st Feb 2015, the country stocks of Petrol were 117,000 Metric Tons sufficient to meet the requirement of the country. Out of the total country stocks, 50000 Metric tons were available in upcountry including Punjab to meet the demand and also about same quantity is in transit from Karachi to upcountry.
On the instructions of Ministry of Petroleum, all OMCs remained open on Sunday, 1st Feb 2015 for ensuring swift supply of Petrol and other petroleum products to the retail outlets. Further OMCs were also advised to ensure minimum 5000 Litres stocks at the retail outlets, all the time. The entire situation has been monitored by Ministry of Petroleum and the District Administrations.
All OMCs have planned to import 350000 Metric Tons of Petrol in 11 vessels during February 2015 to meet the demand. Local refineries will also produce 130000 Metric Tons during the current month to meet the surge in the demand.
The actual sale of Petrol on 1st Feb 2015 was around 33000 Metric Tons, against the normal sales of 12500 Metric Tons. Out of the total sale of 33000 Metric Tons, in Punjab Province 21000 Metric Tons was supplied and the balance was in the rest of the country.
The sale of HSD (Diesel) remained at 46000 Metric Tons against the normal sale of 20000 Metric Tons. HSD imports of 210000 Metric Tons have also been arranged during February 2015. The situation is being monitored round the clock, 7 days a week to ensure smooth supply of the Petrol, HSD and other petroleum products to avoid any discomfort to the general public.
