Islamabad, November 01, 2012 (PPI-OT): The participants of high level meeting of Enforcement agencies expressed determination to adopt stringent measures to curb counterfeiting and piracy which is causing huge financial losses for entrepreneurs as well as national exchequers.
The meeting was presided over by Director General, Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan, Mr. Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta while high-ups of federal and provincial governments, besides representatives of anti-counterfeiting organizations attended the meeting.
The representatives of Uniliver in a presentation highlighted the adverse impacts of production and sale of counterfeit products. They also pointed out the suitable measures to check this menace which has been termed as major hindrance in local and foreign investment in the country.
The Director General IPO said that preparation of a roadmap is in progress to affectively address the counterfeiting and piracy issues and law enforcement agencies had been kept on board for taking strong and decisive actions in this context.
He was of the view that IPO is taking various initiatives to enhance capacity building of enforcement agencies so that they could properly act to check the violation of IP laws. He further said that Intellectual Property Rights owners are the asset of our country who are playing very important role in social and economic sectors. IPO-Pakistan is committed to protect the rights and a number of steps had been adopted to obtain the targets in this regard,
The participants of the meeting during interactive session with the officers of law enforcement agencies, shared their experiences about the sale of counterfeit products in open markets and assured their all possible assistance and cooperation for awareness campaigns and capacity building.
