Karachi, May 27, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has said the Grievances Redressal Committee, recently constituted by the Prime Minister in relation to the ongoing targeted action in Karachi, would likely hold its first meeting within this week.
In a meeting with DG Rangers Major General Rizwan Akhtar at the Governor’s House on Monday, Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan said the committee had representation of all concerned stakeholders of Karachi and could work effectively to resolve issues raised by any quarter.
The committee was formed in a meeting held at the Governor’s House on May 14, with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in chair. The top-level committee was entrusted with the task of resolving complaints regarding the targeted actions, particularly issues such as forced disappearance of political activists, arbitrary arrests and undue raids by plainclothes security personnel.
In Monday’s meeting, Dr Ebad called for improved coordination among law enforcement and intelligence agencies. He urged the LEAs to work together to shatter terrorist networks operating in the city.
He said effective measures were being adopted to curb sale and use of illegal and unregistered SIMs and directed the DG Rangers to expedite actions to arrest and book every criminal and terrorist in the city. The governor also suggested an increase in patrolling in sensitive localities.
