Palestine signs treaties to join 22 international organizations

Ramallah, (OIC-UNA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday signed agreements and international treaties to pave the way for the State of Palestine to join 22 international organizations.

“Every Monday, we will join 22, 26 or 30 organizations. There are 522 organizations that we have membership right,” Abbas said at the start of a meeting of the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah on Monday evening to discuss options to respond to the US decision on Jerusalem.

He described the US move as illegal and invalid, citing the support of 14 countries out 15 UN Security Council member states to an Egyptian draft resolution to condemn the US unilateral decision on Jerusalem.

He stressed that the US decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel should have met with counter Arab and Muslim moves.

“We have to take legal, political and diplomatic countermeasures,” he said, reiterating that the US is no longer a mediator in the Middle East peace process.

“We will go to the General Assembly to issue a set of resolutions, and we will go again and again to get full membership. Palestine is a state with an authority and borders, and the world has to recognize it as it recognized Israel which has no borders,” Abbas said.

He added that the Palestinian leadership would form a special committee to study the draft resolutions which would be presented to the UN.

He expressed pride of Palestinian people, especially Jerusalem residents, who stood up to the American decision and all peoples of the world who expressed their anger at the illegal US move.
