Pakistan’s liquid foreign reserves position as of May 15, 2014

Karachi, May 15, 2014 (PPI-OT): The total liquid foreign reserves held by the country stood at $12,884.8 million on 09May2014.The break-up of the foreign reserves position is as under: –


i) Foreign reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan: $ 8,019.8 million
ii) Net foreign reserves held by banks : $ 4,865.0 million
iii) Total liquid foreign reserves : $ 12,884.8 million

During the week ending 09May2014, SBP’s Liquid FX Reserves increased by $780 million to $8,020 million compared to $7,240 million in the previous week. The increase in the Central Bank reserves is primarily attributed to inflows of $1,050 million from multilateral and bilateral sources, of which $1,006 million were received from the World Bank.

During the week ending 09May2014, on account of external debt servicing and other official payments, SBP has made payments of US$296 million from its reserves. This includes $149 million payment to IMF under SBA.
