Islamabad, November 16, 2012 (PPI-OT): Addressing a group of foreign Correspondents based in Singapore, Pakistan’s High Commissioner in Singapore, Syed Hasan Javed, on Thursday, 15 November 2012 stated that Pakistan is the next economic success story, beginning to happen in Asia.
This is evident from a number of indicators, such as rising female education, growing empowerment of women in society, boom in the rural economy, rise in workers’ remittances and increase in exports, at a time when the global economy is going through a protracted recession. Mr. Javed said that Pakistan is Jewel of Asia, which just needed a bit of polishing by way of much needed structural reforms of its economy and governance systems, says a press release received here today from Singapore.
Pakistan has already in place a reasonable infrastructure, a legal system, English language education and enjoys advantages of young population and rich resource endowments including top ten reserves of the world’s 11 mineral resources, touristic landscape, enviable location advantage and vibrant agriculture. He added that Pakistan is the most resilient country and it is only matter of time, that the world’s major untapped market begins to harness its full potential.
He stated that the inherent strengths of Pakistan, make it the best blessed and placed country at a time when the world is undergoing extraordinary and fast transformation. ‘Pakistan is on the right side of history’, Mr. Javed added explaining that Pakistan’s position during the Cold War proved to be correct and Pakistan was vindicated by subsequent developments.
Pakistan enjoys excellent relations with all the world’s major powers and countries. Pakistan was attracting interest of more and more companies in the Asia Pacific region which would like to relocate to Pakistan.
In reply to a question on Malala’s incident, he said that Pakistan’s Government is establishing ‘Malala schools” for the poor female students who can get education in these institutions. The International Community needs to understand that it is important to win the hearts and minds of the population.
Pakistan advocates a holistic policy of engaging the disgruntled elements by dialogue, development and deterrence. Pakistan supports peace and stability in its neighbourhood and beyond. The High Commissioner also replied to the various questions of the Correspondents.
The interaction with the foreign correspondents is part of the interactive initiative by the High Commission, to project the soft image of Pakistan and its growing importance as investment destination for the companies of the Asia Pacific region.
