Pakistan supports repatriation of Afghan Refugees: Minister

Lahore, December 08, 2012 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Frontier Regions (SAFRON), Engineer Shaukatullah attended the 22nd meeting on the tripartite commission on repatriation of Afghan Refugees here. Mr. Jamaher Anwari, Minister for Refugees and Rehabilitation from Afghanistan and Mr. Neil Wright Country Representative to Afghan refugees from UNHCR were also present.

The Minister appreciated the presence of all the participants. He said the Government of Pakistan supported and believed in the voluntary and dignified repatriation of the afghan refugees. He urged the UNHCR to increase its fund so that the returning afghan refugees could be facilitated in an appropriate manner.

He also emphasized the importance of devising a comprehensive mechanism for implementing the conclusions and adoptions of the meeting in letter and spirit. He requested the Afghan Government to take adequate steps for the integration of the repatriating refugees so that more refugees could be encouraged to return their mother land. The Federal Minister desired better coordination among all the stakeholders.
