Lahore, March 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Steel Re-Rolling Mills Association (PSRMA) has welcomed SNGPL action against gas pilferers and urged the authorities to continue their operations in larger national interests and for the wellbeing of honest steel manufacturers.
In a statement issued here Wednesday, the Central Chairman of PSRMA Ali Ahmad said that issuance of Rs.23 crores detection Bill to one of the gas thieves would help eradicate this menace that is one of the reasons of economic meltdown being witnessed by the country.
He said that the Association wanted a strict action against electricity and gas pilferage and would extend every possible support to SNGPL authorities in their drive against this national crime that is also causing a huge loss to the national exchequer.
The Chairman said that a large number of steel units had already closed down their operations as they were unable to compete with the people who were committing gas pilferage and thus selling cheaper steel products in the market.
The Central Chairman of the Association said that it was very much in the notice of the Association that some political figures are also involved in this national crime but since a caretaker setup is very much in place therefore, it is hoped that no leniency would be granted to any of the pilferers. Ali Ahmad said that the electricity and gas pilferers also evade income tax, sales tax and other taxes which come to billion of rupees.
