Karachi, May 21, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Procurement and Services Department of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) held its largest ever Procurement Conference with the theme “Transforming the Procurement Process Together” at a local hotel to help educate its suppliers and contractors on procurement policies and procedures in line with Public Procurement Rules 2004.
The conference began with a welcome address by PSO General Manager Procurement and Services, Mr Arif Nasib. Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Arif highlighted the need for strengthening the strategic alliance between PSO and its vendors. He stressed that PSO is committed to following PPRA rules in all procurement related activities in order to ensure transparency business dealings and garner cost savings for the company.
Following this, PPRA Director Mr. Ijaz Khokhar addressed the audience and gave an overview regarding the rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA). He informed the vendors that PPRA is a regulatory authority responsible for prescribing procurement related regulations and procedures for public sector organizations with a view to bring about good procurement practices and transparency in all procurement transactions with strategical success.
HSE Expectations were presented at the conference wherein awareness about HSE criteria for prequalification and an overview of the HSE Management System was provided to the vendors. The session also included presentations regarding procurement related activities and information for various functional areas including Supply, Operations as well as Construction and Retail Facilities projects to ensure a better service level from vendors for future projects.
This initiative taken by PSO was whole-heartedly appreciated by the Company’s suppliers and contractors as well as by the other participants of the conference which included officials from Engro, PARCO etc. It was further suggested that such events be made a regular feature to promote better understanding regarding procurement related matters between all parties.
