Pakistan Science Foundation plans different activities to celebrate World Science Day on November 21

Islamabad, November 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) has planned different activities to celebrate the World Science Day (WSD) on November 21.

The WSD is observed all over the world on November 10 to mark the breath taking achievements of man in science and technology and PSF observes this day every year in a befitting manner, but this year PSF has planned to celebrate this day on November 21 so that maximum number of people and students could actively participate in it, said PSF Chairman, Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto.

This year’s theme, Science for Water Cooperation: Sharing Data, Knowledge and Innovations, highlights the key role played by Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in addressing global water challenges.

The major activities planned by PSF on this occasion include a seminar on WSD, award of prizes to winners of science poster,Speech and other competitions etc and science caravan exhibitions in schools and colleges across the country, said by Dr. Ibupoto.

Federal Secretary for Science and Technology is likely to grace this occasion while the initiator of WSD eminent Pakistani Scientist Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad along with other scientists is also likely to participate the event.

To achieve scientific development and use it for the betterment of mankind, Pakistan along with other countries of the world observes the “World Science Day for Peace and Development” on November 10 every year.

The purpose of World Science Day is to renew the commitment to science for peace and development and to stress the reasonable use of science for the benefit of society as postulated by the World Conference on Science in 1999.

UNESCO during the General Conference at its 31st session (2001) had proclaimed November 10 each year as “World Science Day for Peace and Development”. Initially, the proposal was given by Eminent Pakistani Scientist Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad, Advisor to the then Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Since declaration of the day Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Ministry of Science and Technology, celebrates this day on regular basis.

PSF is the apex organization for popularization, promotion and funding of scientific and technological research.
