Islamabad, October 18, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, said that Pakistan is ready to extend technical assistance to Afghanistan for promoting and strengthening its gem stone and marble industry. He also proposed the holding of Pak-Afghan Joint Industrial Exhibitions in the prominent cities of the world.
He expressed these views while addressing at the inaugural ceremony of an industrial exhibition “Made in Pakistan”, jointly organized by Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Afghanistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, at Kabul today, says a press release received here today from Afghanistan.
Underscoring the significance for promoting the trade and economic relations between the two neighbouring countries, he said that it was the need of the hour to intensify the economic relations by holding frequent exhibitions in both the countries, undertaking trade exchange programs and joint venture and further expanding the trade volume from the existing 2 billion dollars for the economic advantages of the two sides.
The Ambassador said that the trade between the two countries had shown a remarkable progress during the last one decade as it jumped from US $ 26 million in 2001 to 2 billion dollars in 2012. He said that both countries were required to focus on promoting economic relations which would bring industrial, agricultural and economic development to both sides. He said only strong economic integration between the two neighbourly countries could rescue them from the present social and political upheaval/crisis.
Apart from the Ambassador, Dr. Sadruddin Sehar, Deputy Finance and Administration Minister of Afghanistan, Mr. Khan Jan Alokozay, Vice President of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Choudhary Abdul Rauf, Chairman Exhibition Committee of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chodhry Parvez Waraich, President of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry spoke on the occasion and stressed the need for promoting closer economic collaboration and interaction between the business communities of the two countries.
