Islamabad: The government of Pakistan People’s Party has firm believe that the nation cannot make progress and development without catering the needs of its poor segments of society. Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has followed the same approach while laying the foundations for a social welfare state three years back.
The service to poor of the country is a practical manifestation of the dreams and vision of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and the government will keep advancing it in future as well. Chairperson BISP Madame Farzana Raja said this while speaking at certificate distribution ceremony among 173 male and female graduates of 3 months vocational training course of “Pak-China Friendship Scholarship” a shared venture of BISP and China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD).
During the ceremony, Rs. 1.5 lac apiece Waseela-e-Haq Cheques worth Rs. 14 million were distributed amongst 92 beneficiary families. Besides others, H.E. Liu Jian, Ambassador of China in Pakistan, Imtiaz Safdar Warriach, President PPP Punjab, PPP MNAs Raja Pervaiz Asharf, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Nadeem Afzal Chan were also present on the occasion.
Madame Farzana Raja said that the vocational training programme is important to curb poverty and we are grateful for cooperation from Chinese Government and CFPD in this regard. She said that financial self sustainability for poor and downtrodden families is being sought through vocational training programme under Waseela-e-Rozgar and interest-free loan for business through Waseela-e-Haq while keeping the self-esteem of deserving families intact and safeguarded.
She added further that BISP was established to empower women and youth of the country and now through Waseela-e-Taleem Initiative, BISP is intending to enrol more than one million children from beneficiary families in schools in April 2012 to secure their future.
She said that the Chinese cooperation in the social sector of Pakistan especially for vocational training is highly commendable and we hope that mutual cooperation in this regard would be continued in future as well.
H.E. Liu Jian, Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan on the occasion said that BISP is doing remarkable job regarding poverty alleviation and China would keep supporting its future endeavours as well. He said that the mutual cooperation between BISP and CFPD in vocational training is proving as a bridge for mutual cooperation between the two countries in the social sector. He congratulated BISP for successful implementation of vocational training programme.
Imtaiz Safdar Warriach, President PPP Punjab also spoke on the occasion and said that BISP is fulfilling a national obligation of working for poverty reduction. He said that the success of vocational training programme of BISP is a befitting response to the elements who throw baseless criticism on BISP.
He said that when President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilnai envisaged this programme, it was deemed a very difficult venture keeping in view its scale but today this programme has become a symbol of effectiveness and transparency. Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, MNA on the occasion said that BISP has successfully advanced the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and the poor of the country are being enabled to achieve financial self sustainability through this wonderful initiative.
