Pakistan needs dedicated professionals with heart to serve country: minister

Islamabad, May 15, 2014 (PPI-OT): While addressing the certificate distribution ceremony of the Teacher Training course at Higher Education Commission, Minister of state for ET and SHE told the participants that education and training are very important especially ethical and moral training which helps human beings to get maximum results of education.

We do not want only Engineers and Doctors but both of them with heart. He told them that after receiving the training from HEC they are not ordinary teachers and professors but the teachers with appropriate professional skills to impart knowledge to the students.

He asked the teachers that it is their responsibility to disseminate these skills to the fellow teachers in their respective Universities.

While narrating the challenges to Pakistan’s education sector the minister said that the country is facing a huge problem of the out of school children. He told that federal government with the cooperation of all provincial governments is trying to overcome the issue of bringing out of school children in the schools.

He lamented the fact that Pakistan is second in the world with the highest out of school children. He also said that currently Pakistan is spending almost 2% of the GDP on education which is less than 1999 when military dictator took over and tax to GDP ratio is also very low.

He further said that Government plans to widen the tax net and also wants to increase the education budget up to 4% of the GDP. With wider tax net the education sector shall have a larger share of the bigger pie. The minister also elaborated how the government is trying to ensure minimum standards in the curricula through the establishment of the National Curriculum Commission.
