Karachi, April 07, 2015 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Navy Ship ASLAT arrived at Karachi Port today after successful evacuation of 146 Pakistani and 36 Foreign National including men, women and children stranded in Al Mukalla, Yemen. Foreign nationals include 08 Chinese, 05 Filipinos, 04 British, 03 Indonesians, 02 Syrians, 01 each Canadian, Egyptian, Jordanian and 11 Indian Nationals. All personnel were safely embarked onboard Pakistan Navy Ship ASLAT from Al Mukalla.
In the wake of developing situation at Yemen, Pakistan Navy considering it a national obligation immediately reacted and sailed its ships for evacuation of stranded Pakistanis. Pakistan Navy ship ASLAT reached Al Mukalla on the morning of 02 April 2015 which had third largest cluster of Pakistanis in Yemen. Although, Yemeni authorities had imposed restriction on movement of stranded personnel from assembly point to Al Mukalla Port due to deteriorated security situation in the city, Pakistan Navy Ship managed embarkation of stranded personnel onboard safely.
Upon assessing the ongoing environment in Al Mukalla vis a vis safety of our nationals, the evacuation effort was switched to nearby Ash Shihr Port. The ship had made comprehensive arrangements to ensure safe and comfortable return of all the evacuees.
Besides safeguarding maritime interests of Pakistan, Pakistan Navy had always been at the forefront with international community to conduct Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations. The resolve and commitment was also evident at numerous occasions in the past including assistance rendered to Maldives and Indonesia after Tsunami 2004 and rescue of MV Suez Crew from Pirates in 2011. Pakistan Navy through forward presence near Yemen, remains committed to ensure protection of national interest.
