Pakistan Mission in Malaysia participates in table-setting expo

Islamabad: Pakistan High Commission in Malaysia joined other missions and embassies in Kuala Lumpur to take part in the International Art of the Table Setting Exhibition at the National Visual Arts Gallery in Kuala Lumpur on 21-22 February 2012. says a press release received here today from Malaysia.

The two-day exhibition organized annually by the Ladies Association of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, also known as a PERWAKILAN (Persatuan Wanita Kementerian Luar Negeri Malaysia) was launched by YBhg. Datin Sri Siti Rubiah binti Datuk Abdul Samd, wife of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia and Patron of PERWAKILAN.

The Pakistani table styled by the ladies and wives of Mission’s officials was bedecked with traditional silverware and modern China placed nicely over a sea-green table spread and the serene and elegant effect it created was widely appreciated and admired by the visitors. High Commissioner for Pakistan to Malaysia Mr. Masood Khalid who visited the exhibition lauded the efforts of the organizers of Pakistani table and admired their skill in reflecting our natural style and folk tradition in the table setting.

Earlier, the wife of the Malaysian Foreign Minister visited the Pakistani table-setting pavilion and while appreciating the overall display also evinced keen interest in the Pakistani handicrafts and artefacts specially introduced on the occasion. Mrs. Sonia Masood, the wife of the High Commissioner, explained to the distinguished guests the background of Pakistani costumes, rugs, handicrafts and national flower ‘Chambelli” which adorned the table.

The main purpose of the exhibition was to provide a platform and opportunity for the various Foreign Embassies and High Commissions in Kuala Lumpur to promote their respective art of table setting. The visitors who came in large numbers viewed with interest the creative ideas of table settings fit to be taken as an inspiration and translated into personal preferences for stylish entertaining on different occasions. The exhibition was also aimed at raising funds through the sale of products from different countries for charity purposes.
