Pakistan International Airlines rebuts Sheikh Rasheed’s statement

Karachi, March 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): Pakistan International Airlines denies the allegations levelled by Member National Assembly, Mr. Shaikh Rasheed against PIA for off-loading him on PIA’s Toronto bound flight PK781 of 21st March, 2014. PIA Spokesman said here on Friday.

The factual position is that at the time of check-in at PIA counter, the APIS (Advance Passenger Information System) an online system of Transportation Security Administration U.S Department of Home Land Security did not give clearance for passenger, Mr. Shaikh Rasheed, booked on said flight.

This system clearance is a pre-requisite for all passengers for Toronto bound flights overflying US airspace and after clearance the system generates boarding cards. The system does not give any reason for non-clearance to the airline. The system check is followed not only by PIA but all other airlines.

PIA considers customer services as a paramount feature and all passengers are well taken care of. PIA regrets the inconvenience caused to Mr. Sheikh Rasheed, which is beyond the control of the airline. PIA spokesman concluded.
