Lahore, March 12, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF), while appreciating the government over Pak-Iran gas pipeline Project, has termed it a bold step in right direction but at the same time urged the government to start construction of an equally important Kalabagh Dam that is absolutely necessary for the progress and prosperity of the country.
In a statement issued here Tuesday, PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javed, Senior Vice Chairman Khamis Saeed Butt and Vice Chairman Amjad Ali Jawa said that there is no second opinion that Pak-Iran gas pipeline would help mitigate the gas shortage to some extent but the Kalabagh Dam is a project that would ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the country for decades to come.
They said that the government should hold meetings with the heads of all the political parties over Kalabagh Dam for winning their consensus for the sake of economy and the people of this country. They said that Kalabagh Dam was a mega project of national importance as it would not only be overcoming water shortage but would also be adding up more than 3500 MW of cheap electricity to national grid. And most importantly it would help save the people of particularly Sindh and Balochistan from floods. The PIAF office-bearers said that it would be a feather in the government’s cap if it starts construction of Kalabagh Dam by winning a consensus among all the federating units.
