Lahore, July 10, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has urged the government to review decision to increase the prices of electricity as it would jackup the cost of doing business in Pakistan.
In a statement issued here, the PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javed said that international market is quite competitive where the margin ranges between 0.5 percent to 0.3 and any further increase in electricity tariff would oust Pakistani merchandise from global market. He said that Pakistan had already lost a number of international markets and recent increase in power tariff would further hamper the exports.
He said that it would have been wiser on the part of the government it the power rates kept at same level for at least one year.
He said that government should expedite work on Nandipur and Nelum Jhelum Hydro power projects to generate more than 1300 MW cheap electricity.
Malik Tahir Javed also urged the government to complete Pak-Iran gas pipeline project as soon as possible as it would also help to generate sufficient electricity through gas. He said that early completion of this very important mega project would be a great favour to the country.
He urged the government to withdraw the decision of increase in power tariff as the crisis-hit trade and industry could not bear massive burden at the point.
