Lahore, April 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) has sought Prime Minister’s help against unscheduled and forced loadshedding.
In a meeting with the delegation of Lahore Township Industrial Area, the PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javed said that the Prime Minister should also look into all the controversial SROs issued by the previous government in the last 15 to 20 days of its tenure.
The PIAF Chairman said that both the issues are hitting the economy hard and making it difficult for the businessmen to continue their businesses.
The Chairman PIAF said that despite repeated requests to the government no solid work was done for electricity generation or for the promotion of alternate energy resources.
Malik Tahir Javed said that same is the case with gas which remained unavailable most of the year. He said that increases in electricity tariff were adding fuel to the fire.
He said that a large number of industrial units have closed down their operations or shifted to the other countries due to energy crisis, high input cost, deteriorating law and order situation and political uncertainty.
He termed the previous government responsible for the energy crisis and economic woes of the country. He said that Kalabagh dam was a project of national importance but previous government shelved the project with a one stroke of pen.
He said that the caretaker government should focus on provision of unintrupted power supply for the sake of trade and industry.
He suggested that government should overcome mismanagement in the power sector that is one of the biggest cause of the energy crisis.
