Lahore, July 16, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) has appreciated crackdown against power and gas pilferage and said that it would help ensure uninterrupted gas/electricity supply to the industry.
In a statement issued here, the PIAF Chairman Malik Tahir Javaid said that huge line losses that stand at 25% needs to be curbed. He said that line losses should be brought at single digit as through this measure government would be able to save sufficient funds. He said that linelosses in Bangladesh are only 2 to 3 percent.
PIAF Chairman said that distribution system should be updated as a huge amount electricity was being wasted due to old distribution system. Old transmission lines and other equipment causing loss of billion rupees annually.
He said that though the present regime took an appreciable step by paying Rs.340 to decrease circular debt but government has to enhance cheap power generation though hydel resources. He said that government should complete Nelam Jhelum power project on war footing.
Malik Tahir Javed urged the government to allow duty free import of solar panels to promote alternate energy sources in the country.
