Islamabad, April 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan has never defaulted in its international obligations since 1947 and will never default. Pakistan’s economy is strong enough to meet its international obligations, said Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry, Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance.
Japan is very special country for Pakistan and Pakistan acknowledges contribution of Japan in its development. Pakistan and Japan should remain engaged all the time to further consolidate economic ties, the Adviser further said. The Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry passed these remarks while meeting with H.E Hiroshi Oe, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan who called on him today.
Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry praised Japan for extending funds for projects like Karachi Circular Railways, Thar Coal Project and Lahore Water Project and declared them as pearls of Pak-Japan friendship. Dr. Shahid Amjad Chaudhry emphasized that exchange of academia between Pakistan and Japan should also be promoted to further strengthen the relations between the two countries. The scholars in Japan working on Pakistan should also be extended financial help by Japan, the Adviser further emphasized.
The Ambassador of Japan said that Japan is quite optimistic about economic situation in Pakistan. Despite financial constraints in Japan, the Government of Japan will continue to assist and invest in Pakistan. Contribution in infrastructure development in Pakistan is major priority of Japan. To overcome energy crises in Pakistan, Japan will assist Pakistan in short term, medium term and long term programmes. Japan is taking keen interest to overcome the energy crisis in Pakistan, the Ambassador further said.
Japan wants to eradicate polio from Pakistan and is already involved in polio eradication campaign. Japan enjoys support and facilitation from all departments and walks of life in Pakistan which is expression of respect in Government and messes for Japan in Pakistan. The Ambassador thanked the Adviser for his cordiality and support.
