Lahore, February 04, 2015 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has always believed in holding of free, fair and impartial elections at every level whether it is at a local/domestic level, i.e. elections for office bearers of PFF and its subordinate football associations, as well as at an international level, i.e. elections for the office bearers of AFC and PFF.
It is an undeniable fact that PFF has always given unconditional support to those candidates at FIFA or AFC level who possess a concrete vision for the development of football in the world and specifically in Pakistan. We have very close, strong and friendly ties with AFC member associations and the governing authorities.
The reflection of this good relation building can quite obviously be seen in the recent past events when a number of foreign teams have visited Pakistan despite the immense security threats prevailing in the country. Not only international teams, but even influential members and office bearers of Asian Football have honoured Pakistan with their presence at different occasions and SAFF Women Championship held at Islamabad last year is a recent example of the excellent relations that PFF maintains with other member countries.
In this regard, a few days ago a news item/article was published in one of the leading daily newspapers, on 22 January, 2015, which gave an incorrect impression that PFF is involved in lobbying ahead of AFC elections scheduled in May. PFF unequivocally and categorically denies the quotes attributed to Col (retd) Ahmed Yar Lodhi, General Secretary of PFF, published in the said news article. The General Secretary PFF, maintains that that he was misquoted.
Furthermore PFF reiterates that it will support any candidate who has a keen interest in the promotion and betterment of football in Asia including Pakistan and considers it ethically wrong, for merely serving its own interests, to manipulate the election process behind closed doors. At the same time PFF firmly stands for the FIFA Fair Play values ON and OFF the pitch.
