Islamabad: Pakistan enjoys respect and prestige among Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, said Muratbek Imanaliev, Secretary General SCO in a meeting with Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Masood Khan here today.
He said SCO appreciates Pakistan’s close association with the organization as an active observer.
The Secretary General said that Pakistan has been playing a leading role in the War Against Terrorism and expressed the hope that Pakistan would be included in the SCO as a full member in the foreseeable future.
Imanaliev said Pakistan is an important country with great significance to the region and is at the forefront in the fight against terrorism, suffering the most. He said SCO wants to forge close economic ties with Pakistan and strengthen cooperation in the efforts to fight the menaces of terrorism and transnational crime.
Masood Khan underlined Pakistan’s keenest desire to become a full member of the SCO and said that there is natural link between Pakistan and the SCO states.
He said Pakistan has always attended the SCO Heads of State/Government meetings at the level of the President and the Prime Minister, which shows the importance the country attaches with this forum.
He said Pakistan, over the years, has enhanced its participation in the various activities of the SCO and it would be a matter of pride if it joins the organization as a full member early.
Masood Khan said the SCO had introduced a new, holistic paradigm of regional and international security which emphasizes economic complementarily and enhanced connectivity.
Imanaliev also apprised the Ambassador of matters relating to the agenda of the upcoming SCO Heads of governments meeting scheduled to take place in Moscow on November 7, says a press release received here today from Beijing, China.
