Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority briefed Civil Servants of 95th National Management Course

Islamabad: On November 3, 2011, officers of 95th National Management Course visited headquarters of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority as a part of their Inland Study Tour (IST) to various government departments to have insight on their role and functioning. Dr. Abdul Jabbar, Chairman, PEMRA welcomed the delegation along with Director General (Licensing) Sardar Arfan Ashraf Kahan and Director General (Operations) Mr. Muhammad Farooq.

The delegation was headed by Mr. Muhammad Ismail Qureshi, Rector National School of Public Policy (NSPP). Among the entourage were the esteemed faculty members of NSPP and veteran civil servants from various groups such as District Management, Police Service of Pakistan, Secretariat, Audit and Accounts, Foreign Services, Commerce and Trade, Inland Revenue Services, Customs, Postal, Intelligence Bureau and officers from provincial services attending NMC for their promotion in BPS -21.

The participants were briefed about the role and functioning of PEMRA, its achievements and challenges faced since its inception in year 2002. Moreover, NMC participants were informed about the composition of the Authority, its outreach at provincial levels, Code of Conduct for Private Broadcasters and Council of Complaints established to redress grievances of the general public against any of the licensee.

The participants were informed that PEMRA has conferred 87 licenses to Satellite Television, 28 permissions for Landing Rights to Foreign Satellite TV channels, 153 licenses for FM Radios and 3000 licenses for cable TV, to date.

The presentation was followed by a Questions and Answer Session wherein participants exhibited keen interest in the working of PEMRA and appreciated landmarks attained in the regulatory framework by the Authority in a short span of time.

Subsequently, the participants visited state-of-the-art monitoring setup, established at PEMRA Headquarters and admired efforts being extended by PEMRA in ensuring quality information and entertainment to the Pakistani viewers.
