Islamabad, August 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): National institute of Population Studies (NIPS), Ministry of National Health, Coordination, Islamabad organized a 5-day report writing workshop in collaboration with USAID and ICF international USA at Elite Hotel, Nathiagali during 13-18th August 2012-13.
The objective of the workshop was to bring a group of renowned researchers in the field of Demography and reproductive health to initiate analyzing the data collected through hectic efforts for the third round of Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey, 2012-13. The demographic and health survey is part of the international series of USAID funded surveys currently being undertaken by DHS MEASURE in 48 countries including Pakistan.
The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Abdul Basit Khan, Executive Director NIPS and attended by the researcher from various Ministries NGOs, Ms. Anjushere Paradhan, Country Manager DHS, ICF, International for Pakistan and Core Research Team of NIPS responsible for conducting the PDHS, 2012-13. The USAID representative also attended the workshop as observer.
In Her welcome address the Director/Project Director PDHS, NIPS, Mrs. Tanvir Kayani highlighted the objectives of the PDHS, 2012-13 and briefly explain and purpose of the workshop, she welcome the participants and appreciated their commitment of devoting time for the National cause.
Mr. Abdul Basit Khan, Executive Director NIPS, in his inaugural speech has expressed his concern on the high population growth in the country, and highlight various problems due to rapid population growth, he asked the researchers to design polices/ programme for educating the general public and specially the political and religious leaders regarding the consequences of the rapid population growth in the Country. He finally declared the workshop open,
The Country Manager, ISF, briefed the participant regarding procedure of writing the report of the PDHS, 2012-13 and allocated various chapters of the survey among the researchers. The first draft of the Survey was completed during the workshop by the writers.
The final report on the PDHS, 2012-13, is expected to be released by the end of October, 2012-13. The report will provide data on family planning, reproductive health, fertility, mortality, EPI, migration, knowledge of TB, hepatitis, and domestic violence by Provinces and area.
