New Delhi, March 23, 2014 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Day was celebrated with national fervour and enthusiasm at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, today.
High Commissioner Abdul Basit raised the Pakistan flag to the tune of national anthem in an impressive ceremony that was held at the Chancery premises.
Speaking on the occasion, the High Commissioner congratulated the Pakistani community in India and highlighted the determination of the Pakistani nation to realize its desire for peace, progress and prosperity. He emphasised that in the last 66 years Pakistan had made tremendous progress in various spheres. “We should take pride in our accomplishments and refuse to be deterred by the challenges facing the country”. He said the people of Pakistan were resolved to overcome their difficulties as nothing was beyond their reach.
The High Commissioner also reiterated Pakistan’s firm determination to forge friendly and cooperative relations with all its neighbours including India. He underlined the significance of the composite dialogue process for settling all outstanding issues between the two countries in a peaceful manner. Mr. Abdul Basit also reaffirmed full solidarity of the Pakistani nation with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
Earlier, messages from the President and the Prime Minister on the Pakistan Day were read out by Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Mansoor Ali Khan.
Students of the Pakistan School in Delhi sang national songs and presented tableau, highlighting the struggle for the creation of Pakistan. At the end of the ceremony, Mrs. Summiya Basit, wife of the High Commissioner, distributed prizes and gifts among the students.
