Pakistan Day Celebrations in Jakarta

Jakarta, March 23, 2014 (PPI-OT): A large gathering of resident Pakistanis, Pakistani origin Indonesians, embassy officials and their families gathered to celebrate the National day at the Embassy compound in Jakarta on 23 March. A group of over thirty children sang the national anthem, while officers of the Armed Forces, under training in Indonesia, presented the salute as the flag was hoisted by Ambassador Attiya Mahmood.

The message of the President, reaffirming our pledge to sincerely follow the principles of Unity, Faith and Discipline as a guiding force to face all the challenges and make collective efforts marked by patriotism, sincerity, commitment and honesty to help us steering this country towards greater prosperity and glory was read out by the Ambassador.

Prime Minister’s message that no effort will be spared to ensure respectable status for the country in the comity of the nations and our government is committed to preserve our great cultural heritage and national identity and to make earnest efforts for bringing about economic and social revival in Pakistan was also read out by DHM.

While addressing the community, Ambassador Mahmood recalled the sacrifices of the people who lost their lives during the struggle for independence. It was imperative, she said, that Pakistan builds its future on the strong foundations on which it was created. Those ideals and principles form the backbone of the country and should not be forgotten. She also thanked the community for the support that they always extended to the Embassy.

She encouraged them to strengthen their contacts with the Embassy so the two can work together for improving and enhancing relations between the two biggest Muslim Countries. The children also sang national songs at the end of the function, when sweets were distributed amongst them.
