Islamabad, March 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): National Day of Pakistan was celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm with Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Masood Khalid hoisting the national flag and read out messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Children from the Pakistan Embassy College presented national songs.
A news release received from Beijing said large number of Pakistanis residing in Beijing, officials of the Embassy, their families and other distinguished guests attended the ceremony.
Similar ceremonies simultaneously took place in Pakistani Consulates in Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
Earlier, Ambassador Masood Khalid hosted a reception at a local hotel to celebrate the National Day.
China’s Minister for Transport, Yang Chuantang was Chief Guest on the occasion.
Ambassador Masood Khalid said that Pakistan and China have all-weather and time-tested friendship which has moved from strength to strength with each passing year and fortified our friendship over the past six decades.
He said Pakistan and China are strong strategic partners. The two countries are investing in strengthening economic ties and our people-to-people contact is warm and sincere.
“We have worked hand in hand to pursue the common goals of economic development, well being of our people and ensuring peace and security in the region,” Ambassador Khalid said.
“We are excited by the economic potential which our country offers,” he said.
Yang Chuantang, congratulated the Pakistani nation on the country’s 73rd National Day, and said that both the countries have a legacy of excellent cooperation in all sectors and it is an all-weather, time-tested friendship which we will bring to new heights.
He said China-Pakistan relations have been steadily developing over past several decades, withstanding the test of time, and successfully facing the fluctuations of international situation.
Minister Yang Chuantang declared that whatever may be the changes in regional or international situation, China will continue to resolutely develop the relations with Pakistan.
Tracing the history of these unique relations, Yang said the Chinese nation can never forget Pakistan’s pivotal role in introducing China to the outside world including Muslim countries.
He said the Pakistani nation came all out to help the marooned people of Wenchuan in Sichuan province by providing all their stock of tents for sheltering those who had lost all their belongings in the massive earthquake that struck on May 12, 2008.
He further said that it was Pakistan that strongly lobbied for the restoration of China’s legitimate right in United Nations.
Ambassador Masood Khalid and Minister Yan Chuantang jointly cut the celebration cake symbolizing Pakistan-China friendship.
On this occasion civil awards were conferred on the following in recognition of their contribution towards strengthening Pakistan-China friendship:
1. Ambassador Sha Zukang, China’s Former Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva ( Hilal-i-Imtiaz)
2. Mr. Lin Zuoming, Chairman of the Board and President of Aviation Industry of China (Sitara-i-Imtiaz).
3. Mr. Sun Weidong, Deputy Director General of Asia Department in China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Sitara-i-Pakistan)
4. Ms. Li Xiaolin, President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. (Tamgha-i-Pakistan)
5. Ms. Hou Yanqi, former Director Pakistan at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Tamgha-i-Pakistan)
The reception was largely attended by the members of Diplomatic Corps, leaders from Chinese corporate sector, think tanks, media persons and members of the Pakistani community. National anthems of both Pakistan and China were played on the occasion.
In their speeches the recipients of the awards thanked the government of Pakistan for conferring awards on them.
On this occasion renowned Chinese singer, Zhu Mingying sang a national song in Urdu and Chinese university students presented Pakistani dress show.
