Pakistan Day Celebrated in Berlin

Islamabad, March 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): A flag hoisting ceremony to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the historic Pakistan Resolution was held at Pakistan Embassy here this morning. Ambassador Abdul Basit hoisted the national flag with national anthem playing in the background in an impressive ceremony. It was attended by a large number of Pakistani community residing in Berlin and its surrounding cities and the officials of the Embassy, says a press release received here today from Berlin.

The Pakistan Ambassador, while congratulating the Pakistani community, said that with the strengthening of democracy, Pakistan was slowly but surely moving towards making itself a country of peace and prosperity.

He emphasized that the people of Pakistan had gone through many challenges and difficult times. But now, as we were consolidating the gains of democracy, there was every reason to be optimistic about a bright future awaiting Pakistan. He said intolerance and extremism were antithetical to the spirit of democracy. The overwhelming majority of Pakistanis were a progressive people. They would not allow extremism to dent their resolve to develop a society based on justice and rule of law.

Earlier the Head of Chancery, Mr. Ali Haider Altaf read out the messages from the President and the Prime Minister on this auspicious occasion. Later, children sang national songs. Wife of the Ambassador, Mrs. Summayya Basit distributed gifts among the children.
