Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman condoles with Cricket Australia and Richie Benaud’s family and friends

Lahore, April 10, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered its condolences to Cricket Australia and asked it to convey these to the family and friends of legendary former Australia captain and commentator Richie Benaud.

Following protracted illness, Richie Benaud passed away at the age of 84. “The ‘Captain Cavalier’ and the ‘Voice of Cricket’ shall be missed in Pakistan as much as anywhere else”, said PCB Chairman Shehryar Mohammad Khan.

“The Pakistanis of my vintage remember him from the early 1960s when he brought an Australian team to Pakistan as its skipper. He was an intense but fair competitor. Those from the latter generations shall recall his voice on radio and on television, its richness and analytical depth, passion and candour making him the standout amongst the best of the best. That was why he was unanimously given the sobriquet, ‘the Voice of Cricket’.

“We, the PCB and the Pakistani cricketing fraternity, deeply mourn Richie Benaud’s passing away. Personally and on behalf of the PCB, I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends and Cricket Australia,” said Shaharyar Khan.

“Richie Benaud was a charismatic and legendary figure – an icon indeed. His career and his continued association with the game as a commentator and writer is a most enriching part of Australia’s and world cricket’s heritage. He shall be remembered”, said Subhan Ahmad, the PCB COO.
