Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and United Nations Information Centre sign statement of Collaboration on dissemination of information on activities and projects of United Nations in Pakistan

Islamabad, November 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and United Nations Information Centre signed a statement of collaboration on dissemination of information on the activities and projects of the United Nations in Pakistan through the network of national broadcaster.

The documents to this effect were signed by Director General, PBC Samina Parvez and Director of UN Information Centre Vittorio Cammarota here at PBC Headquarters Tuesday. Under the statement of collaboration, PBC will provide its vast platform to highlight the activities of United Nations in Urdu and regional languages.

The United Nations Information Centre will provide impartial and reliable information developed by the several agencies, funds and programmes of the United Nations family in Pakistan. It will also facilitate the participation of experts from the United Nations in the PBC programs.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General, PBC Samina Parvez said PBC has always played a pivotal role in airing awareness programs and disseminating campaigns and messages of the United Nations. She expressed the confidence that signing of the statement will further strengthen the existing cooperation between PBC and UN.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of the United Nations Information Center Vittorio Cammarota said:” The mission of the United Nations Information Centre is to empower Pakistani people through communications and we want to strengthen partnership with the Pakistani institutions working in the media including Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. PBC transmission reaches out to ninety five percent of the total population and its expertise and knowledge of mass communications is instrumental in reaching out effectively to the people of the country”.

Mr. Cammarota added that as a next step Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and the United Nations Information Centre will develop a joint work plan highlighting the priorities, thematic area of the United Nations in Pakistan and the main target audiences.
