Pakistan Bridge tournament: Zia Mahmood awarded Player of the Year Award

Karachi, December 29, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan born Zia Mahmood, a living legend of Pakistan Bridge has earned a unique honour when he was awarded Player of the Year Award for the 5th time. This honour was achieved once again when he rounded up the year with the remarkable win in the Life Master Pairs held in San Francisco, USA. Former World Champion Zia Mahmood is now playing for the United States. According to his ranking at the beginning of the year, he was at the 9th spot at the World level. His position will improve after this victory in the National Life Masters pair. It should be noted that in this contest, only those players participate who have achieved the rank of Life Master and above. No one before has won this award so many times. Only Hamman and Meckstroth, both from USA’s team, were able to win it just three times. So it is a record achievement.

Zia Mahmood will be the chief guest in a 4th Zia Mahmood Pairs Bridge Tournament at Karachi Golf Club on 6th January, 2013. Karachi Golf Club sponsor this Pairs Championship in his honour. It is expected that a large number of participants will contest this event once again.
