Srinagar, June 02, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM), headed by the illegally detained Hurriyet leader, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, has said that more than fifty thousand people participated in its recent signature campaign in Srinagar.
The six-day signature campaign, which concluded on Monday, was conducted by the MDM at Pratap Park in Srinagar to seek release of Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo and all other Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in different jails of the territory and India.
Addressing media persons at Pratap Park, the MDM General Secretary, Muhammad Maqbool Butt, said that after receiving warn response from the people, the party had decided to launch the campaign in other districts of the territory also. “We received warm response and participation from all quarters. Various religious, political and social leaders and intellectuals participated in the event. We have now decided to start it in other districts also,” he maintained.
He said that thousands of Kashmiris were imprisoned in different jails. Apart from it, more than thirty persons are undergoing life imprisonment in jails without any fair trail, evidence or recording of witness against them, he added.
The MDM on May 28 launched signature campaign, demanding release of all political prisoners facing life sentence in different jails. A life-sized poster of Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo was placed in Pratap Park for a signature campaign demanding his release.
