Lahore, March 04, 2014 (PPI-OT): Over 20 million Muslim population in China offers huge potential in Halal Food therefore Pakistani businessmen should come forward to avail the opportunity.
This was stated by the Chairman Qinhai Chamber of International Commerce Xihui Wang, who was heading a 20-member delegation, while speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.
LCCI Acting President Mian Tariq Misbah presented Address of welcome while the Vice President Kashif Anwar highlighted some of the issues being faced by Pakistani businessmen doing trade with China. Chairman Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association Major (Retd) Nazir Akhtar also spoke on the occasion.
LCCI Executive Committee Members including Zafar Mehmood, Muhammad Haroon Arrora, Mian Muhammad Afzal, Muhammad Akram, Babr Mehmood Chaudhry, former President Mian Misbahur Rehman and former Vice President Shafqat Saeed Piracha were prominent among the participants.
Xihui Wang said that a big Halal Food exhibition is being held in Qinhai Province in the May 2014 and it would be a great opportunity for the Pakistani businesses dealing in Halal food. He said that another exhibition with the name Green Economy is scheduled for June while a third one that would be carpet expo would be held in August.
The Chairman Qinhai Chamber of International Commerce invited Pakistani businessmen to all the three exhibition saying that Chinese were quite keen to do business with their Pakistani counterparts.
He said that Pakistanis are good neighbors, good friends and good brothers therefore Chinese feel no hesitation in collaborating with their brothers.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI Acting President Mian Tariq Misbah said that rapid development of the economic globalization and regional integration provides a good opportunity for further cooperation between the two countries.
He said that the visit of Chinese delegation would pave way for active collaboration in different sectors including Halal foods, livestock, carpets, pharmaceutical, textile products and machinery. It will definitely lay a solid foundation in expanding the scope of people-to-people contact including businessmen from both the countries.
Mian Tariq Misbah said that the core sectors of Pakistan’s economy including Textile, Halal Food sector, Hand-knotted carpets, offer comparative and competitive advantages to Chinese businessmen.
The LCCI Acting President informed the delegation that over the period of more than a decade the pharmaceutical sector of Pakistan has developed to a great extent.
“Joint ventures in these sectors with Chinese investors will certainly give boost to production, employment and exports earning of the country. We would like to play a role in materializing these business deals.”
He apprised the Chinese delegation that LCCI has established a Mediation Center in August 2012 with active collaboration of IFC. There are more than 40 accredited mediators registered with LCCI who can help the local, national and international businessmen for out of the court settlement.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI Vice President Kashif Anwar sought the help of Chinese businessmen for cooperation with the LCCI Mediation Centre saying some Chinese companies even do not reply to the letters from LCCI Mediation Center therefore it is requested that the message should be conveyed to the Chambers of Commerce in China to extend cooperation to this regard.
He said that the quality of goods/machinery, being supplied to Pakistan, was not up to the mark therefore the Chinese businessmen should look into this area.
“The quality of Chinese products which are being supplied to European Countries and North America are of very high standards as compared to what is being sold to Pakistan.”
