Karachi, March 04, 2019 (PPI-OT): Sindh Minister for Forests and Wildlife Syed Nasir Husain Shan has said that approximately one million tree plantation will be made in first phase in the city to start the Urban Forestry throughout the Sindh Province. This he said while visiting the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Park, Clifton here. The Minister was accompanied by Chancellor Iqra University Ms. Erum Lakhani, Secretary Forest Abdul Raheem Soomro, President NFE and H Naeem Qureshi, Mr. Cheema of IUCN, Mr. Abdullah Rafi and members of civil society and corporate sector including Anila Javed Ali Asghar, Waleed Ansari, Farooq Dad, Intizar Ahmed Abdul Jabbar Qazi and others.
On the occasion Syed Nasir Husain Shah has said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will inaugurate the said plantation campaign in next week through sample a plant in the Benazir Bhutto Park, arrangements in the regard have been finalized. He further said the government of Sindh is fully supported the tree plantation campaign and seek further cooperation to beautify the city through plant trees in maximum numbers and involve the civil society at grass root levels. Government is planning a comprehensive forest policy which will be implemented in letter and spirit, whosoever wants to work with the government they all would be encouraged largely, cooperated and assisted properly.
Furthermore, he said that in future every road sector scheme/project would be made both sides with proper plantation and installation of beautiful trees. The Minister has urged upon the civil society and corporate sector to play their individual role to maintain/take up the parks and tree plantation within their respective areas. President NFE and H Naeem Qureshi has also offered his full support to made the cause a success, that civil society and corporate sector are working on proper mechanism to tree plantation in the city through a subcommittee will work jointly with the government and the Forest Department Sindh respectively.
A massive campaign of plantation, awareness, look after facilities provided in this regard to convert the city into the city of trees and plants. Secretary Forest Abdul Raheem Soomro has also extended his full guidance to the civil society and corporate sector to beautify the Benazir Bhutto Park and other available sites within the urban forestry through a continuous efforts a comprehensive policy and measures taken by the government to achieve the desired result of the tree plantation campaign, he added.
