Karachi, July 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui checked the prices of essential commodities on the third day of holy month of Ramzan during his surprise visit to the bazaars in different areas of district south in his campaign against the profiteers and to control the prices fixed by the city administration.
Magistrates Assistant Commissioner Saddar Sajjad Abro reporters of the newspapers and electronic media beside the officials of Bureau Supply , and Kwaja Saraas as members working as members of the vigilant team with the administration were accompanied with him.
On the directives of the Commissioner Karachi Assistant Commissioner took actions against profiteers and violators. Three profiteers were fined of Rs. 13000. While checking the prices, the commissioner talked to the consumers and appealed to them to help the city administration in identifying the violators so that they could be brought them to the book.
He said there is great need to create awareness among the consumers of their rights as consumers. He appealed to the consumers and said that the city administration needed help from the civil society to successfully get implemented the prices fixed and to continue campaign against those overcharging.
He said prices of vegetables and fruits being issued daily by the Market Committee were being uploaded on the web site of Commissioner Karachi .Consumemers and media persons may reach to have the knowledge of rates about the prices of fruits and vegetables fixed by the Market Committee. i.e: http://commissionerkarachi.gos.pk/.
Commissioner said city administration is giving first priority to the price control work for make successful the efforts to provide the relief to the consumers during the holy month of Ramadan..He further said that District administration has been asked to be vigilant and take stern action against those who were violating the price list.
He said that consumers can complain at the control rooms of all the deputy commissioners where complaint centers have also been set up. He said that the control room set up at the Commissioner Karachi office were also registering the citizens complaint against the price hikes. He said that the city administration has fixed the prices to maximum provide the relief to the consumers during the month of holy Ramadan. Commissioner Karachi said that those found violating the prices fixed by the city administration would be taken to task.
He checked the prices at the shops and stalls of vegetables and fruits. He also checked the grocery prices He inspected the list of city administration that displayed on the shops and those found guilty of not displaying the price lists were processed for action. He ordered the magistrates to take legal actions against those violating the administration’s prices list.
