Baghdad (OIC-UNA) – Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen paid an official visit to Iraq on Sunday during which he met Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari.
During the meeting, they discussed prospects for greater bilateral cooperation. The OIC secretary general stressed that he is supportive of Iraq in its efforts to unite, preserve its territorial integrity, provide security and stability for its people and combat terrorist threats.
He congratulated the Iraqi government for the victories scored over terrorist organizations, and the country’s full liberation from terrorism.
Further, Al-Othaimeen expressed continued commitment of the OIC to collaborate with the Iraqi government to convene, in Baghdad, a conference aimed at a full, lasting national reconciliation for the more significant benefit of all Iraqis.
For his part, the Iraqi foreign minister commended the supportive role of the OIC in the decisive victory Iraq achieved over terrorism. He stressed the importance of continued efforts to hold the Baghdad conference for national reconciliation.
The leaders also discussed conditions in Palestine with focus on the preparations underway to hold an extraordinary Islamic Summit in Istanbul on Wednesday to address the impact of the US administration’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and relocate the American embassy there.
