Islamabad, November 20, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Officers of US Embassy Islamabad visited IPO Headquarter and called on Director General IPO-Pakistan Mr. Sajjad Ahmad. The Delegation was comprised of Director, Rule of Law Linda S. Lourie, Second Secretary, Economic Officer Matan Meyer, and Economic Specialist Mr. Jafar Askari. The meeting was also attended by Executive Director IPO Mr. Umardad Afridi, Directors Mr. Muhammad Ismail and Ms. Nadia Zubair Shah.
The Director General IPO discussed matters relating to training of the officers of law enforcing agencies, judiciary, IP attorneys and capacity building measures to evolve an effective program to check infringement of IP Rights in Pakistan. He said that with the cooperation of law enforcing agencies, amendments would also be proposed to make the laws stringent to proceed against the elements involved in counterfeiting and piracy.
Mr. Sajjad Ahmad said that areas of mutual cooperation especially with regard to amendments in the existing laws to get benefit from each other experiences, can be identified by regular meetings of experts and officials relating to Intellectual Property sectors. He also briefed about the latest developments in connection with training programs, visits of experts and case studies to improve the working of Intellectual Property Rights.
The US delegate Linda S. Lourie showed keen interest in initiating joint venture for capacity building and sharing of knowledge for the protection of Intellectual Property Rights.
