Karachi, April 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): A group of officers of the 98th National Management Course (NMC) visited TDAP, Karachi on 9th April, 2013 and were given presentation by the organization with respect to exports of the country.
In the presentation, the TDAP informed the officers about the organization, its functions, major export product sectors and major export markets of the country. The presentation included the share of various product sectors in the country’s exports, how the same has evolved over the last ten years and the concentration of the exports in terms of both the products as well as the markets.
The officers were informed that cotton and textile continued to be a major export sector of the country, which, however, has declined over the last decade, mainly due to the growth of other export sectors of the country.
While highlighting the functions of the TDAP, the officers were informed that the organization performed a number of functions in order to address the supply side constraints of the exports, and also develop the demand side of the exports. In this regard, TDAP participated in almost 100 exhibitions last year where the major thrust was upon the emerging markets in Asia like China, South Korea, Malaysia and participation in the up and coming markets in Africa. Besides, the organization arranged a series of export related seminars in the country in order to create new exporters and inform old exporters about new export opportunities, like EU program under the Autonomous Trade Preferences (ATP) for export of 75 products from Pakistan to the European Countries.
Responding to the questions of the officers, the Mr. Abid Javed Akbar, Chief Executive of the organization provided a broad overview of the export scene of the country, where he referred to the requirements of the foreign markets in this regard. Taking the example of Mango, the Chief Executive of TDAP informed the officers that various markets had various requirements in this connection; for example, Japan market required vapor heat treatment of Mango before its exports to Japan, and USA required irradiation of the product before its exports to the market.
