No immediate threat of bird flu in the city. Administrator Karachi

Karachi: Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Muhammad Hussain Syed has said that all sorts of preventive measures were being taken to prevent bird flu in the city and there was no immediate threat of bird flu spread in the city.

He was addressing a meeting regarding bird flu which was attended by Senior Director Medical Services Dr. Nasir Javed Shika, Representatives of World Health Organization, Town Health Officers and other officers. Administrator Karachi said KMC gives top most priority to maintenance of cleanliness and availability of better health care facilities for citizens.

Recently a city-wide fumigation was carried out in Karachi to control the spread of dengue virus and as a result of this, very few cases of dengue fever reported in city hospitals. Dr. Nasir Javed Shaikh on this occasion informed that the world organization had declared Pakistan as bird flu free area. He said that a committee on departmental level had also been formed which would take preventive measures and immediate action on the reporting of any bird flu case in the city. Meanwhile, the KMC has suggested precautionary measures regarding bird flu and the people were advised to use properly cooked poultry items.
