Islamabad: On the advice of the Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, the Acting President today approved conferment of the highest Civil Award ‘Nishan-i-Imtiaz’ on Begum Nusrat Bhutto for her relentless fight against dictatorship spanning over decades.
In recognition of her struggle for democracy and the untold agonies suffered for the cause, the Government also conferred on her the special title of Madr-i-Jamhooriyat.
The announcement was made today just when the last remains of Begum Bhutto accompanied by President Asif Ali Zardari, Sanam Bhutto, Bilawal, Bakhtawar, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari were about to land at Sukkur airport for burial in mausoleum of Garhi Khuda Bakhsh around Asr time today.
Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar quoted President as saying that there would be no politics over her death and everyone regardless of political and family differences were welcome to participate in the last rites and pay homage to icon of democracy.
