Srinagar, March 01, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has termed the fresh wave of NIA raids on the residences of Hurriyat leaders as a well-thought-out plan to malign and implicate leadership in false cases and discredit the Kashmiris’ ongoing freedom movement.
A forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar condemned the occupation authorities for stopping the Mirwaiz from addressing media men and placing him under house arrest since Wednesday. He said that such repressive measures would not be able to cow down the leadership.
He strongly denounced the detention and house arrest of leaders including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr Hameed Fayaz, Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees vice chairman Muhstaq Ahmed Veeri besides dozens of Hurriyat activists and termed the action as frustration on part of the Indian authorities.
The spokesman while referring to the prevailing situation in the region said that main cause of tension between India and Pakistan was the lingering Kashmir dispute. “The Kashmir dispute has again become a flash-point today when both countries are engaged in another conflict over it and unless it is addressed politically and peacefully such situations will keep arising putting the region into peril,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League in a statement issued in Srinagar denounced in strong terms the NIA raids on the residences of Hurriyat leaders and activists. It said that such Indian tactics could not intimidate the Kashmiris into submission and they would continue their ongoing freedom movement till complete success.
On the other hand, a spokesman of Islami Tanzeem-e-Azadi in a statement in Srinagar appreciated the announcement of Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan, to release captured Indian pilot, Abhinandan Varthaman, for promoting peace in the region.
